A pesar de ser muy concurrida, su extensión hace que sea una playa tranquila. Posee un fuerte oleaje, lo que la hace muy adecuada para la práctica del surf y aconseja un baño con precaución.

La playa está formada por un arenal de casi 2 km de longitud y por un gran espacio con dunas, que hace que sea incluida en el Paisaje protegido del Cabo Peñas.
